Packaging for nuts and dried fruit — film, seal and print

Nuts and dried fruit have three enemies: moisture, oil and sharp edges. Choosing cellophane, OPP bags and the right thickness, printed at the factory.

By Alireza Ahmadi, Production line specialist

Clear OPP bags are one option for nuts and dried fruit. Navid's ready-made OPP bags come in 30 and 40 microns; suitability depends on fill weight, sharp shell edges and the closure. Test a filled sample under your transport and storage conditions before ordering a production quantity.

Nuts are among the hardest contents a bag can carry. Shell edges abrade the seal from inside, their natural oil works on the film, and ambient moisture takes the crispness out within weeks. At the same time the buyer has to see the product — nobody buys nuts blind. Those three demands together decide the film.

Which product for which job?

  • Packaging cellophane — rolls for automatic packing machines and weighed packs.
  • OPP bags — ready-made bags in standard sizes for hand packing and retail.
  • Adhesive OPP bags — the same bag with a self-seal lip; closes without a sealing machine, ideal for shops and on-site packing.
  • CPP cellophane — a softer, more flexible surface for packs that fold or take a shape.

Thickness: why nuts are the exception

Navid's ready-made OPP bags come in 30 and 40 microns. These are product specifications, not a guarantee against sharp shells. Fill the sample with your actual product at its sale weight, then check both the bag wall and seal. If the seal opens, its quality and machine settings also need checking.

Print: where a nut brand is built

This market is full of near-identical products and the difference on the shelf is made by the pack. Custom printing up to 10 colours is done on the same film we extrude, so the gauge is set to your artwork and registration is corrected on that same line. A suitable gauge for multi-colour printing depends on the film grade, press and artwork details; agree the order specification and approve the printed sample before the bulk run.

Send the product type, pack weight and run size and we will propose material, thickness and price.

What thickness suits nut packaging?

Navid's ready-made OPP bags are available in 30 and 40 microns. Select using a sample filled to the actual sale weight; thicker film alone does not replace checking the bag wall and seal against sharp shells.

Cellophane or polyethylene for dried fruit?

Cellophane — higher clarity and gloss so the product shows on the shelf. Polyethylene is hazier and less attractive for this use.

Do you print our brand on the packs?

Yes, up to ten colours on the same film produced at our factory, with a printed sample sent before the bulk run.
