Packaging for nuts and dried fruit — film, seal and print
Nuts and dried fruit have three enemies: moisture, oil and sharp edges. Choosing cellophane, OPP bags and the right thickness, with your brand printed at the factory.
Nuts and dried fruit are usually packed in cellophane or OPP bags at 30-50 microns: high clarity so the product shows, moisture resistance, and a seal that survives sharp shell edges. Adhesive-lip bags suit retail packing; brands add custom printing up to 8 colours.

Nuts are among the hardest contents a bag can carry. Shell edges abrade the seal from inside, their natural oil works on the film, and ambient moisture takes the crispness out within weeks. At the same time the buyer has to see the product — nobody buys nuts blind. Those three demands together decide the film.
Three problems, three decisions
| Problem | What happens | The right decision |
|---|---|---|
| Sharp shell edges | The seal opens from inside | Take the top of the thickness range and test the seal |
| Moisture | The product loses its crispness | Moisture-resistant film, a tight pack with no gaps |
| Nut oil | Staining and loss of gloss | Film with a smooth, even surface |
| Visibility | An opaque pack does not sell on the shelf | Clear glossy cellophane, not hazy nylon |
Which product for which job
- **Packaging cellophane** — rolls for automatic packing machines and weighed packs.
- **OPP bags** — ready-made bags in standard sizes for hand packing and retail.
- **Adhesive OPP bags** — the same bag with a self-seal lip; closes without a sealing machine, ideal for shops and on-site packing.
- **CPP cellophane** — a softer, more flexible surface for packs that fold or take a shape.
Thickness: why nuts are the exception
For most dry food, 30 to 50 microns is enough. For nuts with sharp shells — split pistachios, almonds, broken walnuts — go to the top of that range. But the more important point: if the pack opens at the seam, more microns will not fix it; the seal quality has to be fixed. Always fill the sample with the exact product you sell, not a lighter stand-in.
Print: where a nut brand is built
This market is full of near-identical products and the difference on the shelf is made by the pack. Custom printing up to 8 colours is done on the same film we extrude, so the gauge is set to your artwork and registration is corrected on that same line. Multi-colour artwork needs at least 30 microns for clean edges.
Send the product type, pack weight and run size and we will propose material, thickness and price.
Request a quote and a sampleWhat thickness suits nut packaging?
Usually 30 to 50 microns. For sharp-shelled nuts take the top of the range and test the seal with a filled sample.
Cellophane or polyethylene for dried fruit?
Cellophane — higher clarity and gloss so the product shows on the shelf. Polyethylene is hazier and less attractive for this use.
Do you print our brand on the packs?
Yes, up to eight colours on the same film produced at our factory, with a printed sample sent before the bulk run.
